ROOF TREATMENTS

Many roofs in Surrey are affected by Algae, Lichen and Moss which can spoil the aesthetic look of the house and give the appearance of a ‘dirty & unsightly surface’ where the original colour of the tile has all but been hidden by this collective biofilm. Soft washing will gently, over a period of a few months restore the natural colour. 

Where there is excessive moss covering this will first be removed manually via gentle scraping & brushing as it allows the product to better reach the tile surface. Gutter downpipes will be covered and any gutters cleared of any falling moss and detritus. The product is applied using long reach equipment to accurately spray the  surface minimising any risk of overspray and negating the need to go onto the roof itself.

PATIOS & PAVING

Paving of any kind can pick up unsightly marks, that become slippery with algae and lichen. Soft washing can remove this with no damage to old or fragile pointing between slabs.

Lichen will die and fade to white if there is any present. This will then lose its adhesion and simply come off over a short period of time. Softwashing will effectively treat black lichen commonly known as ‘patio black spot’ which pressure washing alone can not remove.

RENDER

Algae on render comes in different forms and react differently to soft washing. Green stains can be gone within an hour, red will turn pink and disappear in 4-24 hours. Black staining will lighten to grey and continue to disappear over time.

TIMBER & DECKING

Timber that is exposed to the English weather will often become contaminated with algae and moss causing the timber to rot faster and become slippery and visually unattractive .

Soft washing is highly effective on timber killing the live growth and acting as a wood preserver.

THATCHED ROOF

Moss and algae can cause thatching material to deteriorate rapidly by creating a thin film that covers the thatch and prevents it from drying properly. The roof stays moist for longer allowing fungi to thrive so reducing the lifespan of a thatched roof. The control of moss and algae growth on thatched roofs is essential if you want improve its life. 

It is controlled by the use of Algoclear Pro which is approved by the National Society of Master Thatchers and the roof will look newer for years reducing the need for costly repairs.
